The S.mart cluster

At the service of research and businesses !

Based for many years in Franche-Comté, backed up by SUPMICROTECH-ENSMM, UFC and UTBM, this network makes a significant contribution to the area’s vitality and innovation.

A long-standing network

A new federating cluster

AIP-Priméca is the Inter-Establishment Production Technology Workshop and IT Resource Cluster for Mechanics network. It is the result of the merger between two networks in 2001: the Inter-Establishment Production Technology Workshops (created in 1984) and the IT Resource Clusters for Mechanics (created in 1991).

The S.mart network aims to serve as an entry point as an academic network for the Industry of the Future. Its calling is therefore to federate all the educational, scientific and technological initiatives around the Industry of the Future between the national and regional levels.
The national network

Significant ressources pooled in france

Today, the goal is to pool the resources and skills destined for training, research and transfers to business. In this perspective, the network stimulates initiatives and federates resources between teaching establishments by placing industrial-scale hardware and software at their disposal.

This national network, which benefits from the support of the Ministry of Higher Education and Research, counts ten regional clusters today: Auvergne Rhône-Alpes, Bourgogne Franche-Comté, Grand Est, Haut-de-France, Ile-de-France, Occitanie, Pays de la Loire and Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur (3).

A trail-blazing cluster !

The cluster was created at a very early time in our region, in 1984, by associating SUPMICROTECH-ENSMM and UFC. In the years 2002 to 2004, UTBM joined the cluster as a partner establishment. The University of Burgundy, for the Dijon-Auxerre University Institute of Technology, also joined in September 2014.

The two Franche-Comté platforms

The Besançon platform has CAD and structure calculation, 3D digitising, reverse engineering, fast manufacturing, CAD-CAM, vision, robotics and micromanipulation resources.

The Sévenans platform has CAD and calculations, material testing, fluid mechanics and dedicated mechatronics platform resources as well as conventional production equipment.

The Besançon platform’s main resources are based on the SUPMICROTECH-ENSMM premises, with various CAD rooms with between 7 and 28 workstations, and the pilot workshop at the cutting edge of today’s technologies.
